Woman Tries to Snatch 2-Year-Old Girl in Bensonhurst, Police Say

BROOKLYN — A woman tried to abduct a 2-year-old girl in Bensonhurst over the weekend, and police were still searching for the suspect on Tuesday, according to the NYPD.

The child was playing outside near New Utrecht High School at 16th Avenue and 80th Street on May 28 at about 9:50 a.m. when the woman approached her, took her hand and started to walk away, an NYPD spokesman said.

The mother was outside, saw the woman walking away with her daughter, and was able to take the child back from the stranger, according to authorities.

The mother snapped a cellphone picture of the woman woman while she fled, police said.

The suspect has black hair and was last seen wearing a red and white plaid shirt and was carrying a black bag, according to police.
