CHINATOWN — An innovative new poké bowl spot is now serving up Japanese-inspired spins on the popular Hawaiian dish after quietly opening its doors at 227 Canal St. last week.
Chikarashi offers a simple menu of fresh takes on the traditional fish-and-rice dish from Chef Michael Jong Lim of West Village sushi spot Neta, blending the concept of the Japanese chirashi bowls with the Hawaiian staple and adding some Chinese and Korean flavors to the mix.
Diners can choose between five “chikarashi poké bowls” starting at $13 apiece — such as the Wasabi-Goma Tuna bowl and the Ponzu Salmon bowl — or try out the rotating daily special.
“I wanted to share what I consider comfort food with the community, using only the freshest ingredients without them having to spend a fortune,” said Lim.
The restaurant on May 16 opened its doors for a soft opening, and plans to officially launch at a June 2 grand opening. It is currently open Monday through Saturday, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
