HUNTS POINT — A minivan driver was shot in the neck and killed in Hunts Point on Wednesday morning, police said.

The man, 37-year-old Jose Ingles, had pulled up to a bodega near Faile Street and Spofford Avenue just minutes before 6 a.m., when the woman in his passenger seat hopped out and went into the store but left the door open, sources said.

Two men then approached the car, and one of them distracted Ingles and made him look toward the passenger seat, sources said.

The other man then shot him multiple times, according to police.

Melvin Aguilar, 28, was asleep in his apartment overlooking the scene when the victim, who wore a dark T-shirt and blue jeans, was shot.

"I heard five shots. They were loud. They woke me up," Aguilar said.

"I saw the guy after he was shot. He was alive. His eyes were open. There was a lot of blood."

There were no immediate arrests, and it wasn't immediately clear what sparked the shooting, police said.

However, officers said it seems like a targeted shooting and not a random attack.

Video of the incident shows Ingles' car double parked on the street corner as the two men approach him. It shows the woman who was in the car with Ingles walking around in the bodega as well.
