EAST VILLAGE — A Curry Hill Indian street food restaurant with a newly opened Avenue B outpost is the only spot in the city where you can feast on an Indian poutine, doused in a tikka masala gravy and grated paneer instead of the traditional gravy and cheese curds.

Desi Galli, which prides itself on its fresh and inexpensive Indian dishes, has rolled out the Desi Poutine as part of a new menu along with its new location at 172 Avenue B.

Owner and chef PriaVanda Chouhan says the unique hybrid dish — the only one of its kind in the city, she claims — is inspired by her Canadian upbringing.

"I grew up in Montreal and I lived on poutine," she said. "I felt I really had to pay homage to Montreal."

The eatery, which also has a location at 101 Lexington Ave. in "Curry Hill," also offers a variety of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, including a Kathi Roll — or "Indian Burrito" — in a gluten-free flatbread.

Chouhan decided to open up an East Village location to serve the neighborhood's youthful crowd, catering to NYU students and young professionals looking for fresh food on a budget — many dishes fall under or just above $10.

"We wanted a student population," said Chouhan. "There was nothing remotely similar to what we do in the area."

Desi Galli's new location is open Sunday through Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 12 p.m. to 3 a.m.
