BROOKLYN — Fort Greene Park will turn purple Friday night as the neighborhood salutes the life and career of Prince.
The tribute event will kick off around 5 p.m. with a host of DJs playing three hours of his music. Organizers will then break out the big screen and show his cult classic “Purple Rain” at 8 p.m.
“If you feel like dancing’ and ‘u got the look,’ join me at Fort Greene Park as we celebrate the life and music of Prince,” said Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, one of the organizers of Friday’s event, in a statement. “Money don't matter 2 night,’ so put on your ‘supercute’ ‘purple medley,’ hop in your ‘little red corvette,’ and ‘Let’s go crazy.’”
The neighborhood paid tribute to Prince last Thursday with a bittersweet block party outside Spike Lee’s production headquarters.
Prince, 57, was found dead inside his Minneapolis compound last week. Autopsy results are pending.
Friday's event is being hosted in partnership with the city's Parks Department, the Fort Greene Conservancy and Councilwoman Laurie A. Cumbo.
