MANHATTAN — A woman fended off a would-be mugger who put a knife to her face and tried to steal her purse in a Financial District craft beer bar, police said.

The 25-year-old woman was in the Growler Bar at 15 S. William St., near Broad Street, about 11:30 p.m. on April 12 when another woman threatened her, NYPD officials said.

The suspect put a knife to the victim's face and demanded money before trying to grab her purse, police said.

She couldn't wrest it away and ended up fleeing empty-handed, police said.

The suspect, who can be seen in surveillance photos released by police, had short-cropped hair and appeared to be wearing a blazer.

She's about 5 feet 5 inches and approximately 230 pounds, police said.

Growler, which opened in 2011 in a building dating back to 1837, offers 20 beers and ciders, according to its website.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
