Tulip season is in full swing — and the Upper West Side has some stunning arrays this season.
While Park Avenue may have medians chock-full of tulips, locals looking to explore a much larger collection away from the hubbub need look no further than their own backyard.
Specifically, the volunteer-run West Side Community Garden, on West 89th Street between Columbus and Amsterdam avenues, has a diligent "flower committee" that plants and maintains the many beds in this 89,000-square-foot garden.
The beds are now home to more than 13,000 tulips that are currently in bloom.
The garden is the pride and joy of flower-loving locals, but there are lots of other places in the neighborhood to see this short-lived and colorful bloom before it's too late.
Stopping to Smell the Flowers at the West Side Community Garden
The garden hosts an annual "Tulip Festival" that includes educational tours on the weekends.
Tulips in Riverside Park
These bright yellow tulips were spotted in Riverside Park, but so were the rarer dark-purple tulips at the West 91st Street Garden located inside the park and run by group The Garden People.
Central Park's Shakespeare Garden in Bloom
Tulips are thickly planted in the Shakespeare Garden in Central Park, just off of West Drive near West 79th Street.
Strawberry Fields Forever
There are usually flowers sprinkled on top of the Strawberry Fields tribute to John Lennon inside Central Park, but now there are also beds of lush tulips sprouting up nearby.
Ring Around Columbus Circle
A ring of red and pink tulips creates a bright border around Columbus Circle's fountain and Christopher Columbus statue.
Tulips Fill the Broadway Malls
Tulips in bright oranges and reds can be found in most of the Broadway malls, or the medians along Broadway.
