GREENWICH VILLAGE — A cab driver lost control of the car and struck a female pedestrian near NYU Thursday afternoon, an NYPD spokeswoman said.
The 33-year-old cabbie was heading east on East 8th Street when they made a right turn onto University Place against traffic at about 11:05 p.m., according to the NYPD. The cabbie then jumped the curb, struck a wall and slammed into the 33-year-old woman.

Cheri Orozco, 40, was babysitting in a University Place apartment when she heard a "crashing sound" and ran to the window.
"I just thought, 'I hope it's not a child,'" Orozco said. "I just left a class with the baby I babysit. It could have been us."
The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical but stable condition, fire officials said.
The driver may have suffered a seizure before the crash but was not seriously injured, according to police.
The NYPD was investigating the collision.
