UPPER EAST SIDE — The original manuscript for the fourth Batman comic, a signed first edition of "Where the Wild Things Are," and Robert Frost's personal walking stick are just a handful of items you can find at this year's New York Antiquarian Book Fair.
More than 200 American and international dealers, including New York's own Harper's Books, Bauman Rare Books and Ursus Rare Books, will be selling their wares April 7-10 inside the Park Avenue Armory's large drill hall on Park Avenue.
A number of important historical pieces of literature will be up for grabs, including a $90,000 collection of first editions of 56 Sherlock Holmes short stories and two novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and an out-of-print copy of Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" with surrealist etchings for $20,000.
In addition to gilt books and first editions, there will be a wide selection of rare and sundry items like Robert Frost's cane that he personally carved with a line from his poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening," and a Twiggy paper doll book from the 1960s, for example.
The book fair will host a preview on April 7, from 5 to 9 p.m., and will officially open on April 8, from noon to 8 p.m., April 9, from noon to 7 p.m. and April 10, from noon to 5 p.m.
