SUNSET PARK — A 29-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in the lobby of her Sunset Park apartment building late Saturday night, police said.

An unknown man grabbed the victim March 12 around 11:45 p.m. and placed a knife on her neck at her 50th Street building between Eighth and Ninth avenues, police and elected officials said.

He touched her buttocks and took off her pants and undergarments. He also touched the victim's midsection before he fled the scene, according to police.

Police released a video of the suspect early Monday morning.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and released in stable condition.

Police described the man as standing between 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-10 with a slim build and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

“We are shaken by the news of a brutal sexual assault of a young woman committed in Sunset Park just before midnight last night," Council Member Carlos Menchaca and Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez said in a statement.

"We urge community members to report any suspicious activity and any information that may be helpful for police to locate the suspect."
