QUEENS — Police are searching for a burglar who has been breaking into apartments in Rego Park and Forest Hills via fire escapes.
Authorities, who released new video of the suspect Tuesday, have linked the man who they said was responsible for a December burglary in Rego Park to four other break-ins in the area, police said Tuesday.
The suspect usually breaks into apartments in the afternoon or evening, using fire escapes to enter, according to authorities.
The first burglary occurred on Dec. 20, when the thief swiped $2,000 in electronics and jewelry from an apartment near 63rd Drive and Fitchett Street in Rego Park, police said.
Police believe that the same man is also responsible for four other break-ins that occurred between Dec. 31 and Feb. 8, when he hit three apartments on Saunders Street and one on Queens Boulevard.
The stolen items include jewelry, cash, a Wii U game system and electronics, such as computers and camera equipment, according to the NYPD.
Police described the suspect as approximately 45 years old, 6 feet tall and weighing about 170 pounds. He was seen wearing a black hat, gray coat and tan pants.
