STUYVESANT TOWN — Two Peter Cooper Village apartments will have access to rooftop decks by early spring, but the new owner of the complex does not plan on expanding the initiative beyond the two units, a spokeswoman said.

Construction is underway on both top-floor apartments of 2 Peter Cooper Road, with work on the decks and stairwells expected to wrap up by the end of March, according to a spokeswoman for Blackstone, which owns the property.

Designs for the decks began under the previous owner, and the city okayed the construction of stairwell bulkheads on the roof in September, Department of Buildings permits show.

Blackstone, which purchased the sprawling housing complex in December, is following through with plans to build the roof decks but doesn't intend to install them on any other units, the Blackstone representative said.

“This was an initiative undertaken during Compass Rock’s ownership and we do not see value in further pursuing it,” she said, referring to the property-management arm of the previous owner, CWCapital.

The decks, which will be 430 and 350 square feet, will sit squarely over the apartments that have access to them and won’t result in rooftop tenants stomping around on their neighbors’ ceilings, according to Blackstone.

Blackstone has not yet set a price for the apartments with roof decks, a spokeswoman said.
