QUEENS — An MTA elevator maintenance worker was punched in the face and mugged at a Jamaica subway station on Valentine’s Day morning, police and the MTA said.
The 61-year-old victim was working at the Sutphin Boulevard/Archer Avenue subway around 8 a.m. when he was approached by a man who demanded his cellphone, officials said.
When it turned out that the worker didn’t have one, the suspect punched him in the face and took his two-way radio, according to the NYPD.
He then walked up to the mezzanine area and smashed the radio before fleeing, police said.
The worker was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was treated and released, according to the MTA.
Authorities described the mugger as being approximately 5-foot-8-inches tall and between the ages of 35 to 45.
He was last seen wearing a black “Kangol” style hat, a dark colored jacket and a lime green hooded sweater. He had a black bicycle with him.
