LOWER EAST SIDE — A straphanger who fell asleep riding the F train suffered more than a rude awakening.

The 54-year-old was startled awake by a robber punching him in the head at about 5 p.m. on Feb. 2, police said. The man boarded the train at the Essex and Delancey stop, but soon fell asleep as he was traveling to Queens.

The robber stole the man's wallet, which contained $20, as well as his cellphone. The robber quickly fled the train, leaving the man with bruising and pain, police said.
