QUEENS — The human remains found in a Hollis park last week may have been used during a “good luck” ritual, sources said.
The remains were found in a bag by Parks Department employees Thursday as they were working in Peter Fields Park, on the corner of Henderson Avenue and 183rd Place, police said.
The bag contained a skull, a jawbone and six other bones, police said.
Investigators also found a machete and a rope, which had been shaped to depict a cross, authorities said.
Police sources said that the remains "were extremely old,” and were “most likely taken from a cemetery sometime in the past."
Sources also said that they were possibly used as part of “a good luck ritual.”
The remains had not been identified as of Monday, police said.
