WINDSOR TERRACE — A literature-themed garden could blossom at the Windsor Terrace library if enough people "like" the project on Facebook.
Library leaders are competing for up to $5,000 in funding to build a garden bursting with plants and flowers mentioned in books.
It's one of 26 proposed programs at libraries across Brooklyn that are up for possible funding through a new Brooklyn Public Library program called Bklyn Incubator.
People can vote for their favorite programs by liking them on this Facebook page.
The public can vote on the programs through Feb. 3.
Public feedback is only one factor in determining which programs get funding, a BPL spokesman said. The proposed programs will also be evaluated by a panel of library staff from various departments, the spokesman said.
The list of programs competing for funding includes ballroom dancing classes for older adults at the Carroll Gardens library, a 12-week drama workshop at Bushwick's DeKalb Library and a podcasting club at the Brooklyn Public Library main branch at Grand Army Plaza.
At the Windsor Terrace branch, the new garden would teach kids about plant care and reading, leaders said.
"We hope to plant a love of reading," library officials said in a description of the garden program. "From Greek myths to Shakespeare to Frances Hodgson Burnett's 'The Secret Garden,' plants have always played an important role in works of literature."
The Bklyn Incubator project, which was first reported by the neighborhood blog KARMA, was funded in part by a $25,000 Sparks Ignition grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The IMLS funding will be matched by the Library.
