QUEENS — Shake Shack is hoping to open its Forest Hills location this April, according to Community Board 6.
The popular burger chain is currently in the process of applying for a wine and beer license for the Austin Street location, and its representatives met with the board’s Consumer Affairs Committee on Wednesday, according to Frank Gulluscio, district manager at CB6.
During that meeting, they said they are seeking to launch the restaurant this April, he said.
The board later voted to approve Shake Shack's license application, although its role is only advisory, Gulluscio said. The State Liquor Authority will ultimately decide whether to grant the license or not.
The restaurant, at 71-26 Austin St., will replace Strawberry, a teen clothing retailer which closed last year after more than two decades in business.
Shake Shack first announced its Forest Hills location in November. At the time, its representatives said it would open in 2016 but did not provide any more details.
The chain did not immediately return emails seeking comment Thursday.
Last month, the chain opened its location at Queens Center Mall, its first in the borough that doesn't require a ticket to enter. The other Queens locations include Citi Field and JFK Airport.
