PORT MORRIS — The South Bronx's iconic History Channel billboard could soon be a thing of the past.
The sign sitting atop of 20 Bruckner Blvd. has been a well-known part of the borough's skyline for years but is now on its way down, according to Michael Brady, director of special projects for the economic development group SoBro.
Although the network's "H" logo still adorned the scaffolding as of Monday afternoon, the capital red letters next to it that had spelled out "The History Channel" were already gone.
The building at 20 Bruckner Blvd. used to be an ice-making factory and is now undergoing extensive renovations that should cost between $18 and $25 million, according to Maddd Equities, a real estate company that partnered with the building owner to work on the property.
Representatives from Maddd Equities and The History Channel did not respond to requests for comment.
