QUEENS — Artists in Jamaica's burgeoning arts scene will get a chance to discuss their needs during an event scheduled for next week at the Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning.

The Jamaica Arts Leaders Town Hall organized by the Queens Council on the Arts in partnership with JCAL will be an opportunity to highlight local artists, give them the chance to voice their concerns and discuss Jamaica’s creative potential and ways of engaging the community, the organizers said.

Providing affordable studio spaces, creating dedicated places in the area for making public art and promoting downtown Jamaica as a cultural district will be among the issues discussed during the town hall.

A panel of experts, including Cathy Hung of JCAL, Kendal Henry of the Department of Cultural Affairs and David Johnston of Exploring the Metropolis, will facilitate the discussion.

The town hall, which is open to the public, will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 13, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning at 161-04 Jamaica Ave. To register, go here.
