Man Dies in Bronx Apartment Fire, Police Say

WAKEFIELD — A man was killed when a fire tore through his apartment early Sunday morning, according to police and fire officials.

The blaze broke out on the third floor of 655 E. 230th St., where firefighters discovered 36-year-old James Turtein, a resident of the building, in cardiac arrest, police said.

EMS workers took him to Montefiore Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

The blaze was accidental and caused by a pinched electrical cord, according to the fire department.

The cause of Turtein's death is still pending, according to the Medical Examiner's office.
