NEW SPRINGVILLE — A Macy's worker was arrested after she pocketed gift cards and merchandise from the store on Christmas Eve and one other day, prosecutors said.

Alina Dostov, 20, who worked at the Macy's in the Staten Island Mall, processed fake cash transactions for $2,530.23 worth of gift cards from the store — without putting money in the register — eight times on Christmas Eve and Tuesday, Dec. 29, prosecutors said.

She also took items from the store and rang them up as cash transactions but didn't put money in the register, prosecutors said.

In total, Dostov took $7,977 in gift cards and merchandise from the store, prosecutors said.

She was arrested on Wednesday and charged with grand larceny and petit larceny at her arraignment, according to the Staten Island District Attorney's office

Dostov was released without bail and is due back in court on March 30, according to online court records.

Her lawyer could not be reached for comment.
