LONG ISLAND CITY — A broken rail caused massive delays on the 7 train for commuters headed to work on the first business day of the new year.
7 trains weren't running in either direction between Queensboro Plaza and 34th Street-Hudson Yards for about a half hour due to the rail condition at the Hunters Point Avenue station, according to the MTA.
Service returned around 9:10 a.m., though trains were still running with "extensive delays" in both directions at that time, according to the MTA's website.
Straphangers took to Twitter to complain about the shutdown, which took place as many were heading back to work for the first time after the holidays.
