MANHATTAN — A Brooklyn man smashed the mirror of a truck using a screwdriver during an argument over a fender bender near Union Square, police said.

A 26-year-old driver became violent while arguing with another motorist after they collided on West 17th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues at about 1:22 p.m. on Dec. 21, authorities said.

While exchanging barbs after the accident, the suspect, a man from Crown Heights, took a screwdriver and started smashing the passenger-side mirror of the other man's truck, causing about $400 worth of damage, according to a criminal complaint.

The screwdriver-wielding motorist was charged with criminal mischief, and a judge released him without bail, officials said. He is due back in court on Feb. 9.

His lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
