PARK SLOPE — A man was arrested for smashing a bottle over the head of his drinking buddy at a Mexican restaurant last week, according to a police report.

Jose Vasquez, 33, was arrested Dec. 8 after cutting his companion's head with the bottle and then waving a hammer at him at Mezcal's on Fifth Avenue and President Street, according to a police report.

The two men had been drinking together when the fight broke out at 9:30 p.m., according to the report. The man who was hit with the bottle was treated at New York Methodist Hospital for wounds on his head, according to the report.

Vasquez was charged with assault, menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment. His defense attorney declined to comment.
