HARLEM — Developers want to build a 7-story apartment building next to the post office on West 140th Street.
Maxwell Development, who also owns two buildings to the left of the site, filed plans for the 71-foot-tall building with the city on Dec. 3, YIMBY first reported.
The new building at 225 W. 140th St. will replace an empty lot filled with tree, benches, tables and open space.
The lot has been locked for several weeks. Residents of nearby buildings often bring their own chairs and sit on the sidewalk in front of the space, said a mailman from the nearby post office.
STAT Architecture, who is working on the project, said it will cost roughly $6 million and some public funds will be used for the development, according to their website.
The building will have a community space on the ground floor with studios, one, two, and three-bedrooms on the upper floors. There will also be a backyard.
