GOWANUS — It's the Brooklyn equivalent of sitting on Santa's lap.

A Gowanus nonprofit is hosting a holiday party where the public can pose for photos with the "K" from the famed Kentile Floors sign that once graced the borough's skyline.

"People feel attached to the sign,” said Irina Edelstein of the Gowanus Alliance, which is hosting the event. “They were upset that it was taken down. It’s really cool to see it up close."

The free party takes place Friday, Dec. 11 from 5 to about 9 p.m. at 135 13th St., between Second and Third avenues.

The Kentile Floors sign, a familiar sight to F train riders entering Brooklyn, was taken down in 2014. Since then it's been under the care of the Gowanus Alliance.

The neighborhood advocacy group is researching various options for the public display of the iconic sign, which advertised an asbestos tile company on Ninth Street and Second Avenue.

One possibility is to install the letters near an abandoned playground on 10th Street and Third Avenue.
