PROSPECT HEIGHTS — Police are looking for two burglars who stole cash from three popular local eateries this fall, including longtime Washington Avenue favorite Tom’s Restaurant.

The NYPD released photos on Wednesday of two men they say broke into three restaurants five times over the last four months, using windows and cellar doors to gain access, then taking money from cash registers before fleeing.

One restaurant, Sunshine Co. at 780 Washington Ave., was burgled three times, police said — first on Aug. 31, then again on Sept. 21 and most recently on Oct. 25. On the third try, investigators said, the burglars broke into an ATM machine at the cocktail bar, as well as taking money from the register.

The burglars also hit Domo Taco, a newcomer to Franklin Avenue, on Sept. 14, the NYPD said.

And on Sept. 17, the pair hit beloved neighborhood diner Tom’s Restaurant, located at 782 Washington Ave. on the corner of Sterling Place, which was recently renamed “Gus Vlahavas Place” for the eatery’s former owner.

Anyone with information in regards to the burglaries is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
