HELL'S KITCHEN — Basera Indian Bistro was temporarily shut down this week after food inspectors found evidence of mice, a fly infestation, some food items not being refrigerated, employees handling food with their hands and unwashed surfaces where food was being prepared, according to city records.
The restaurant at racked up 106 violation points and was shut down on Monday, according to city records.
Basera has a checkered record on cleanliness. During three prior inspections, health officials constantly found mice and and flies.
In one instance this April, an inspector said that "personal cleanliness [was] inadequate" and in another from 2013, an employee had tried to interfere with the health inspector.
In its most recent graded inspection from May, the restaurant earned a "B," with inspectors still citing evidence of mice in the facility.
A manager was not in Basera Indian Bistro Thursday afternoon and did not return a request for comment.
By Thursday the restaurant had reopened with a grade pending sign and will have to be re-inspected by health officials to earn a letter grade.
