NEW SPRINGVILLE — A 23-year-old man died earlier this month from injuries he suffered when he was struck by a driver in October while removing a traffic cone from the street, police said.

Kyler Hailey, 23, of Stapleton, stopped his 1999 Nissan near the corner Richmond Avenue and Forest Hill Road on Oct. 13 and got out to remove a traffic cone, officials said.

While outside of his car, Hailey was struck by a 2013 Hyundai driven by a 77-year-old woman at about 11:48 p.m., police said.

Emergency workers found Hailey laying on the ground with severe leg injuries, and he was taken to Staten Island University Hospital North, police said.

Hailey died from his injuries in the hospital on Nov. 5, police said.

The driver remained on scene and was not charged, police said.
