JACKSON HEIGHTS — An ancient burial ground being reclaimed for the community by local artists will host a special Día de los Muertos event this weekend.
The Hibridos Collective is throwing "Remember :: Restore :: Revive" — a celebration of death and life — on Nov. 1, the Day of the Dead, at the Leverich Cemetery on 35th Avenue and 71st Street.
The traditional Mexican holiday honors deceased loved ones, and participants are encouraged to bring photos of family and friends lost this year, organizers said.
The day begins with tulip and daffodil planting from noon to 2 p.m., with bulbs donated by New Yorkers for Parks. A bilingual poetry workshop will also be held at this time.
Writers from Newtown Literary Journal will host a public reading to close out the event from 2 until 4 p.m.
The group will provide hot chocolate and Mexican sweet bread and encourage guests to bring friends.
The cemetery dates back to the 1600s and is being reclaimed for the community with public workshops on how to use the space.
