QUEENS — A school bus burst into flames while driving on the Grand Central Parkway in Forest Hills Tuesday afternoon, fire officials said.
The fire broke out around 5 p.m. near Jewel Avenue, police said. It is not immediately known how many people were on the bus at the time but an FDNY spokesman said that when firefighters arrived at the scene, the bus was empty.
No injuries were reported, according to the FDNY.
The 112th Precinct warned drivers via Twitter to avoid the area.
A number of local residents also tweeted that they heard an explosion.
It did not seem that any other vehicle was involved in the incident, and the cause of the fire was not immediately clear, fire officials said.
