HARLEM — City Councilwoman Inez Dickens is recovering from a broken kneecap that has sidelined her from her legislative duties for a nearly a month, her office said.

Dickens fell over a tripping hazard while running a personal errand outside the city on Sept. 18, said her spokeswoman Frances Escano.

The councilwoman, who has not publicly spoken about her stint at Harlem Hospital, has missed eight City Council meetings since Sept. 25.

Dickens, who serves on five committees and is chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Planning, Dispositions and Concessions, is currently recovering in a physical rehabilitation facility. She will return to her normal workload shortly, Escano said.

As news of her hospitalization spread throughout the neighborhood, so many people visited the councilwoman that a visitor’s list was made for her at Harlem Hospital.

“The village of Harlem has supported the CM throughout this time and she is very much thankful for their support and love,” Escano said in a statement.
