QUEENS — A 52-year-old woman was killed Tuesday night and her 2-year-old niece critically injured when an SUV ran a red light, crashed into another car and jumped a sidewalk in Richmond Hill, police said.

The accident occurred around 5:53 p.m. at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and 108th Street, authorities said.

Just before the crash, Meena Mahabir, who lived a block from where the accident took place, was standing on the sidewalk with her niece and the girl's 48-year-old mother.

Seconds later, a white SUV traveling west on Atlantic Avenue and driven by a 43-year-old woman ran a red light and was hit by a black Kia, whose driver, a 23-year-old woman, was traveling north on 108th Street, officials said.

The out-of-control SUV jumped the sidewalk and plowed into the two women and the child, police said.

The three pedestrians and the drivers of both cars were rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where Mahabir was pronounced dead.

The toddler, who suffered a concussion and cuts on her stomach, is listed in critical but stable condition, authorities said.

The girl's mother and the drivers of the two cars are in stable condition, officials said.

As of Wednesday morning, no arrests had been made in connection to the crash, police said.
