EAST WILLIAMSBURG — Beer and barbecue joint Arrogant Swine was burglarized last week when a thief broke into its safe and stole $3,000, according to police.

The bar and restaurant at 173 Morgan Ave. was robbed around 4 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 28, after it had closed for business, according to police and Arrogant Swine owner Tyson Ho.

A portable safe with cash in it was broken open, and $3,000 cash inside was taken, police said.

The rear door had also been visibly damaged, police said.

Ho said that the burglary put the restaurant in a rough spot for the month.

Business slowed down last weekend because of the storm and a threat of a hurricane, he said, doubling down on losses.

"In between getting robbed and the hurricane, it wasn't an awesome week," Ho said.

Aside from the stolen cash, damage to the restaurant was minimal, he said.

The restaurant is hosting a live music event on Saturday, Oct. 24, and hopes that will bring in some business later this month, Ho said.

"It's not good," he said. "But we'll weather the storm."

Police are investigating the incident.
