HARLEM — A group of 10 men screamed homophobic slurs at a man while beating him Sunday night in what the NYPD is investigating as a possible biased attack, police said.

The 26-year-old man, who police have not publicly identified, was wearing a fur coat and smoking a cigarette when he was surrounded by the group on the steps leading up to the bell tower in Marcus Garvey Park about 7 p.m., according to the NYPD.

One of the men asked if he had marijuana. When the victim said no, the man told him that one of the members of the group had a problem with him.

Within minutes the men attacked, police said.

One of the attacker struck the victim above the left eyebrow with a cane. Others punched him in the face while calling him a f****t, police said.

The group stole the man’s backpack, keys, a phone charger and a woman’s fur coat.
