GLENDALE — A pet foundation is raising money to pay for surgery on a 5-year-old terrier who was hit by a tow truck along with his owner last week.
The pooch, Lucas, was walking with his owner at 10 p.m. on Sept. 24 at 80th Street and Myrtle Avenue when they were both struck by the vehicle, according to Paul Miranda, the practice manager at BluePearl Veterinary Partners.
The female dog owner — whose name was not released — was taken to a nearby hospital while a neighbor took Lucas to the Forest Hills animal hospital where vets found he needs surgery to fix a broken jaw and to repair an ear, Miranda said.
His owner also underwent surgery from being hit by the truck, according to Frankie's Friends, an animal group raising money to help pay for Lucas's surgeries.
It'll cost around $10,000 for Lucas' medical treatments, they said.
"Hopefully, he can be reunited with his human 'mom' soon, thanks to your help!," the group wrote on its fundraising page.
