UPPER WEST SIDE — Michelin published its "Bib Gourmand" award-winners Thursday — a distinction for achieving both affordability and excellence — and included two popular local spots on its list.
For its 2016 list, Michelin added local spots “Miss Mamie’s Spoonbread Too” and “Jin Ramen,” among a total of 133 New York City restaurants.
To qualify as a “Bib Gourmand,” a restaurant has to offer two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less before a tip and tax are added, and meet with Michelin’s secret inspectors’ approval.
Miss Mamie’s Spoonbread Too at 364 West 110th St. at Columbus Avenue is a longtime soul food restaurant run by Norma Jean Darden, who modeled the decor and approach after her mother’s Alabama kitchen.
A bowl of seafood gumbo is $5.95 and an entree of Southern fried chicken smothered in gravy is $13.95.
Jin Ramen opened a new location in the neighborhood at the end of December and has a branch in West Harlem as well.
Its ramen ranges between $12 and $14 with special add-ons about a $1 each.
Several upscale Upper West Side restaurants have regular Michelin stars, including Dovetail, Picholine and Lincoln Restaurant.
