BROOKLYN — A man trashed a Bedford-Stuyvesant deli and tried to stab a clerk who stopped him from stealing from the store, police said.

In dramatic surveillance footage released by police, the man reached behind the counter to grab items inside 1060 Fulton St., near Classon Avenue, about 8:50 p.m. on Sept. 7, NYPD officials said.

When a clerk stopped him, the young man, in a white T-shirt with sunglasses perched on his head, shoves the clerk and starts tearing through the store, the video shows.

He throws a box of Corona beer against a window and then dumps a smoothie machine onto the floor.

The clerk chased the man outside, where the would-be thief pulled a knife and tried to cut the clerk, but failed and ran off, according to the video.

The suspect is in his early 20s, stands roughly 5-foot-8 and weighs 160 pounds, police said.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
