GREENPOINT — The McCarren Games are coming to town.

The Open Space Alliance, which helps maintain parks in North Brooklyn, is debuting a one-day tournament on Oct. 11 for kickball, ultimate Frisbee and flag football to raise funds for the popular green space.

The games offer a way to a highlight the park's athletic facilities with a single event, said Lauren Lawson, development and events manager for OSA.

"You have all these athletic components that are so close together," she said. "We wanted to create an event that would celebrate McCarren and to show that you can play all of these sports in this one location."

Teams must have between 10 and 14 people, with six teams per sport and at least two women per team.

The winning team in each sport will be declared "2015 McCarren Games World Champions," and teams and individuals can also win prizes for raising the most money.

Each team must raise at least $350 to compete, with the money going back into the park.

"They’re playing for the park in their neighborhood by playing in these games," Lawson said.
