WILLIAMSBURG — More than $2,500 worth of religious items were stolen from a car in South Williamsburg last week, police said.
The male victim, 35, said he left his car parked on Harrison Avenue near Lynch Street on Monday, Aug. 10, at roughly 11:30 p.m., police said.
When he returned the next morning at 9:15 a.m., he saw that a tefillin worth $2,400 and a religious cape worth $125 that had been in a box in the backseat were gone, police said.
The tefillin is a significant object in Judaism.
There was no damage to the vehicle, and the victim did not remember if he had left his doors unlocked, police said.
The NYPD is investigating the incident.
