Man Suspected of Raping 7-Year-Old Arrested, Police Say

STATEN ISLAND — A man suspected of breaking into a Staten Island home and raping a 7-year-old girl in her bedroom was arrested on Tuesday in New Jersey, police said.

Daniel Nieto, 32, was arrested in East Brunswick, N.J., in connection with the Aug. 6 rape. He was waiting extradition to Staten Island, police said.

Charges were Wednesday pending.

On Aug. 6, Nieto broke into the home through the backdoor at about 2:45 a.m., entered the girl's bedroom, sexually assaulted her then fled the house, police said.

Nieto was previously arrested for criminal possession of marijuana, police said.
