Man Steals Sleeping Woman's Cellphone and Jewelry at Queens Subway Station

LONG ISLAND CITY — A man stole a cellphone, jewelry and other items from a woman who'd fallen asleep at a subway station in Queens earlier this month, police said.

The suspect approached the 61-year-old woman as she was sleeping on a bench in the E train station at Queens Plaza shortly after 4 p.m. on July 7 and swiped her bags, which contained her cellphone, jewelry and paperwork, according to police.

The suspect is described as being between 30 and 35 years old, standing 5-foot-8 and weighing 160 pounds, according to police.

Photos released by the NYPD show him passing through a subway turnstile wearing a navy blue sweater and a black hooded sweatshirt.
