Barefoot Man Who Escaped From East Harlem Holding Cell Surrenders

EAST HARLEM — An escaped prisoner who somehow managed to disappear from a holding cell inside the 25th Precinct stationhouse Friday turned himself in Monday morning, police said. 

Arthur Collins, 57, was arrested Friday a about 6:30 p.m. at 1976 Madison Ave. Police found crack, cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and a gun silencer on him during the arrest, according to the NYPD.

He was taken to the 25th Precinct stationhouse and placed in a holding cell. When officers checked in on him during his processing, Collins, who wasn't wearing any shoes, was gone.

Over the weekend, the NYPD released a mug shot of Collins from a prior arrest. 

Monday morning at roughly 11 a.m., he turned himself in, a police spokeswoman said. 

Collins had not been charged as of 1 p.m., but the NYPD will release his charges are soon as they are available, she added.
