BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — A Tribe Called Quest’s Jarobi White and Brand Nubian’s Sadat X are hitting the stage this summer at Bed-Stuy’s TAMA Summerfest.
The rappers from the legendary hip-hop groups will bring their talents to Tompkins Avenue on Aug. 8 as part of the commercial corridor’s annual celebration, which features food, art, music, and more.
The Tompkins Avenue Merchants Association (TAMA) partnered with Bridge Street Development Corporation for the sixth year to promote local businesses along the thoroughfare, according to Bridge Street’s director of community engagement, Yvette Buckner.
“The special live performance is the biggest addition this year and it’s one of the biggest and best we’ve ever had,” Buckner said.
Five blocks of Tompkins Avenue, from Hancock to Monroe streets, will be transformed into a pedestrian plaza, where kids can enjoy community painting and games, and adults can grab can a drink or stretch out with some yoga.
A sidewalk sale will also extend two blocks down to Quincy Street and feature area vendors.
“It’s a great way to encourage residents to shop local,” Buckner said.
“This festival is in the heart of Bedford-Stuyvesant, in a place known for its culture, music, and history. There’ll be something for everyone.”
