Cyclist Beaten in Williamsburg Anti-Immigrant Attack, Police Say

BROOKLYN — A cyclist was knocked off his bike and beaten by a man making anti-immigrant statements in Williamsburg Sunday morning, police said.

The 25-year-old victim, whose name was not released, was riding near the intersection of Leonard and Jackson streets about 4:55 a.m. when the suspect came up to him and started insulting him, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

"You f-----g immigrant! You don't belong in this country! Go back to your country!" the suspect said, according to police.

He then knocked the man, who is Hispanic, off his bike before repeatedly punching and kicking him, police said.

The cyclist suffered a bruise to his right eye and was treated and released from Woodhull Medical Center, police said.

The suspect, who can be seen in a police sketch, was not immediately arrested, police said.
