MANHATTAN — An escaped prisoner attempted murder charges was caught Monday nearly a month after he broke free from police who were escorting him to Central Booking, police said.

A police officer and a detective were escorting Tareek Arnold, 23, from the 32nd Precinct stationhouse, at 250 W. 135th St., at about 7:20 p.m. June 23 when he shoved one of them to the ground and took off running, NYPD officials said.

The officer was treated at St. Luke's Hospital for a cut to his knee and released, police said.

Arnold, who has tattoos reading "Troll" and "Militant Soldier," had been arrested for shooting a man four times in Harlem on June 8, police said.

He was re-arrested about 9 p.m. Monday at a Central Harlem home on new charges of assault on a police officer and escaping, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

He had been arrested six times before on weapons, drugs and forgery charges, police said.

On Tuesday, Arnold was indicted on attempted murder and weapons charges that stemmed from the June 8 shooting. Additionally he was charged with assault and escape for fleeing police custody on June 23.

Mark Jankowitz, the attorney representing Arnold, declined to comment.
