MANHATTAN — The U.S. women’s national soccer team will get a ticker-tape parade Friday along the Canyon of Heroes, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Tuesday.
The parade will travel up Broadway from the Battery to City Hall starting at 11 a.m.
Sunday's victory over Japan marked the team's third World Cup championship and first since 1999.
This will be first parade along the route since the Giants won the Super Bowl in 2012.
Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer had urged the mayor earlier in the week to host the parade.
“New York City has a strong history of honoring sports achievements in the Canyon of Heroes, but has never held a parade to honor a women’s team,” Brewer wrote in a July 6 letter.
