BUSHWICK — Illegal fireworks on Independence Day were determined to be the cause of a fire in Bushwick that injured four people, fire officials said.

More than 100 firefighters responded to the fire at 170 Wyckoff Ave. just before 9 p.m. on July 4, the FDNY said.

The fire started on the third floor, burning through an apartment and sending four people to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries, according to the FDNY and witnesses.

Fire marshals determined that illegal fireworks started the blaze, though they did not have information about the type of fireworks or where they came from.

No one has been arrested for the incident.

As of Monday, people living in six different apartments in the building could not return home.

Fire officials enacted a full vacate order for the property Sunday, according to Department of Buildings records — saying that the fire damaged the entire roof and front exterior wall.

A structural stability inspection has been requested, according to DOB records.

It's illegal to set off fireworks in New York without a permit.

Still, once the week of Independence Day hits, dozens of locals still find a way to set off fireworks throughout New York City.
