GREENWICH VILLAGE — A man robbed a bank near Union Square Wednesday afternoon — but the bank teller slipped a dye pack in with the cash that exploded as the suspect fled the bank, police said.

The suspect, who police described as 5-foot-7 and 150 pounds, barged into the Amalgamated Bank at 10 East 14th St. about 3:55 p.m. on June 17, police said.

Police said the robber threatened the bank teller with a gun and demanded money.

The teller handed the man an unknown amount of cash with the dye pack, which exploded as the man ran off.

The NYPD is seeking help from the public in identifying the suspect, who was caught on surveillance camera in the bank.

Anyone with information about him is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
