GRANITEVILLE — A robbery suspect who tried to hang himself inside the 121st Precinct on Staten Island succumbed to his injuries Saturday, three days after the suicide attempt, police said.

Officers found the 53-year-old man on Wednesday with a sweatshirt tied around his neck and attached to his cell at about 1:06 p.m., police said. Police performed CPR and transported him to Richmond University Medical Center

He was pronounced dead on Saturday, police said.

Police, who did not immediately release the man's name, offered no additional details about the arrest, other than to say it was for robbery. The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
